No. Our Castle is not open to the public. It is available for exclusive hire events, meetings and weddings. Guests may only access Barnbougle when attending a private event.
Anything and everything! A beautiful grand setting for a special wedding day, a grand banqueting hall for a gala corporate dinner and beautiful grounds perfect for team building activities.
Yes, please contact our sales and events team. They will be able to discuss your event brief and look at our available dates. We will hold a date for a period of 2 weeks for you.
Barnbougle can host a wide variety of events depending on your brief and our events team would be happy to provide a bespoke costing. Please note the castle is only available to hire on an exclusive use basis and not room by room.
Depending on your event brief, the castle can be hired for daytime or evening hire or even in shorter windows of up to 4 hours for a half day hire. Our opening hours which we are licensed to operate from are 9am until midnight. We can apply for a license extension past midnight at an hourly rate and also charge an admin fee to apply for the license. For day events additional hours can also be added on if required at an hourly rate.
The Castle is accessible from the main entrance via a ramp with a lift to all levels within. Wheelchair accessible WC facilities are available on the ground floor. The path of travel to access the Castle can be uneven due to gravel paths and mixed terrain and the private beach access includes narrow steps.
Candles are only allowed on dining tables in our banqueting hall. In all other areas, LED candles must be used.
Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs inside the castle. Dogs are welcome on a lead in the Barnbougle grounds for photo opportunities.
Approval from your Event Manager is required for the use of drones on estate land and around the venue. Pilots must check with the Edinburgh Airport Authority if they have permission to fly as the venue is located close to the flight path.
Fireworks may only be undertaken by our approved professional firework display company and with our written permission.
Yes we do, we have documented floorplans for different floors and rooms within the castle which we can share with you. We also have a 3D interactive tour of the castle which you can view in a dollhouse view as well as floorplans here also and the ability to take measurements.
Yes, we do have Wifi throughout the Castle which is complimentary for all guests to use.

Getting Here
We are located just 15 minutes drive from Edinburgh International Airport and just 7 miles from Edinburgh city centre
Barnbougle Castle is located in a gated estate, and is best driven to. Directions and access code can be provided by our event team on the booking of a site visit or event.
There is parking for coaches and vehicles related to booked events at Barnbougle. However, prior permission must be sought if the owner wishes to leave a vehicle overnight in the parking area.
All gates to the estate and castle require a code to enter, which will be provided by your event manager.
Access to the Castle is via the Chapel Gate entrance of the private Dalmeny Estate. Car parking is in the designated area.
Guests can also be dropped off and collected from the Castle by coach. Please liaise with your Event Manager as gate access restricts larger coaches.
There is parking for coaches and vehicles related to booked events at Barnbougle. However, prior permission must be sought if the owner wishes to leave a vehicle overnight in the parking area.

Capacity
Barnbougle includes two large event spaces, which caters for 140 seated guests within our Banqueting Hall for dining and 200 guests reception style over both floors.
Groups of up to 450 can be accommodated with the option of marquees in the garden.
Our libraries within the castle are also suitable to accommodate smaller groups from 10 – 60 guests!
No, we do not have a permanent Marquee onsite, however we are happy for you to work with our preferred suppliers to provide one for larger events. Groups of 450 people can be accommodated within a marquee in our gardens.
No, this is an exclusive-use event venue only. Our converted Water Tower nearby makes for a perfect bridal suite or escape for two.
We can also help you with local and Edinburgh-based accommodation providers. Please enquire with your Events Manager.
Yes, we do, however, it is your responsibility to ensure that children and infants are properly supervised.

Catering and Suppliers
All event staffing is included on a 10 to 1 ratio. Also included is a member of our excellent events team to help you with your event from enquiry to delivery.
We have the great privilege at Rosebery Estates of working with Scotland’s most celebrated event chefs. Rosebery Culinary team will help you deliver a menu to satisfy the most discerning of guest’s palates.
As our catering team is in house, we do not allow any external caterers onsite.
Yes, we have a range of different catering packages to suit different requirements for dinners, buffets, food stations & more. Our catering packages will include your food and beverages, staffing costs and also linens and tableware. Upgrades are available to add as a supplement.
Yes, we do have our own recommended supplier list which we can share with you. This covers Photographers, Entertainment, Décor, Transport, Security and much more. Our team can assist with providing quotes and proposals for any suppliers required.
